Wet Sanding Varnish

Just put on my first coat of varnish on the deck of my C-17. Looks fantastic! Now am ready to wet sand in prep for second coat. Should I do all wet sanding with 400 grit or start with a heavier grit first and then finish with 400? Is there any need for anything finer than 400 for the last couple coats? I plan to do five coats of Z-Spar Captains Varnish.
