I had a similar experience with removing wires from the WR18 I am slowly, very slowly, building.
Instead of a small pencil shaped soldering iron ( I gave up after looking for it for an hour)I used one of the pistol type soldering guns. More watts so the wires heated after only 5 to 10 seconds. It is amazing so well the heat softens even fully cured epoxy and the wires pull right out.
I agree that blow torches are not a real good idea, but the soldering gun is really easy.
