On one of my truck, I have a bomber rack, won't break and won't come off. I run my bow line back to the rack and the stern line forward to the rack for highway travel. The kayak can't move forward or backward and there is no downward force on the bow or stern. It doesn't take much leverage to stress a hull when one pulls down on the nose or tail.
