Depends on the boat, of course, but you cut off 2-4' of the end of each sheer clamp, then plane about 25% of the top off.
When I remember to, I sometimes use a 3/8" round-over bit in a router on the lower, inside corner of the sheer clamp. Takes off another 6 ounces or so.
