Good reminder to everyone! I try to go out every time assuming I'm going to flip over (of course I usually do it on purpose if I don't do it by accident!) I also make sure the group I'm going out with knows what kind of rescues each individual is comfortable with performing. None of the people I paddle with are what you would call advanced paddlers. Gotta be careful on any lake, but especially on Lake Superior where we like to go. A kayaker just died a couple of weeks ago on an exposed section of shore that I've paddled several times. Weather was 75 and sunny/windy, but the water was somewhere in the high 40s. Both kayakers flipped and were unable to right; one died from exposure/drowning. Gotta respect the lake.
