Why an internal halyard?

I've built an Eastport, with the sailing rig. I think an internal halyard on that boat is way overkill and a completely un-necessary complication. You'll find more friction and you weaken the mast down by the partners where the halyard must exit.

I'd go external- the rest sounds workable, although I'd think if you have access to a TS the birdsmouth method would be simpler. But your idea will most certainly work.
