It is my humble opinon that climbing over the hatch is a darn near useless maneuver for self rescue any how. Going from that "cowboy" position into the seat in rough water and wind...well, I (and a number of more experienced Kayakers)dont think it would be your best bet. You are way up high when sitting on top and until you get into the cockpit your hands are busy and cant assist in bracing. Other methods seam much more functional and stable. So one might ask, whats the point? Rubber hatches dont have plywood stiffeners!
