you want polypropelene, not nylon. It comes in differnt weights but the stuff CLC sells works just fine,,it's not the same stuff as you see on lawn chairs, just as a polypropelene rescue tow line isn't the same as the cheap course strand yellow poly rope.
Nylon stretches when wet and strinks when it dries. I'll leave you to figure out why that's not desirable for a hatch closure.
