You neeed a layer of scrificial glass for at least the first two feet and the last two feet of the keel if you do any beach landings.

The more functional option is to make a sacrifical keel stripe of slightly-silica-thickened contrasting-colored (grafite is good)epoxy. When you wear through the color you just touch it up with another coat.
