Gober, I haul my kayaks all over creation on my Xterra, and I haven't noticed any difference in MPG. The Xterra by itself is so bad on gas, I don't think it cares. I'm carrying a CH16 and a WS Pungo with the Yakima stackers.

We have a set of Yakima Low Riders and bars for the new Outback, but we haven't tried those yet. However, having used a similar system on our Explorer, it should be just fine.
