Dynel vs. Brass?

Hi folks,

I was away up north for a week or so and I missed the thread on Dynel rub strips.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why folks prefer dynel to brass rub strips. The dynel seems to be more trouble to install, looks less than lovely (not terribly nautical), probably doesn't last nearly as long as brass and, in the end, probably weighs more than brass.

Anyhow, if any of you newer builders want some fairly clear directions to obtain, prepare and install 3/8" brass half oval rub strips, e-mail me and I'll be glad to share notes.
