I'll leave the chemical answers to those who know.
All I have is this one caution - white paint will only hide imperfections in colour. Bumps, lumps, gaps etc will be magnified beyond belief - and once painted, there's no turning back.
From what I've read here and elsewhere, folk paint the inside of their cockpits white to reduce heat build-up in extremely hot conditions.
If your finish is really bad - do what my wife does - wall paper.
