Always tie it belly up and support it with foam blocks at or near the bulkheads. Kayak aerodynamics make it best this way. Use a cockpit cover to keep rain out otherwise you might end up carrying a lot more weight than you want. Use a bow line on highways and back that up with a stern line for really long trips.
