Ray, what Ken said is the same as my experience. The thick weatherstripping and hatch lips accomodate a range of less than perfect matching between hatch and deck. Given the fact that the hatch doesn't bend beyond the ribs is one other factor that makes the hatch fit variable. The warp happens when the outer veneers of the ply aren't parallel to the direction of the bend. I've had it happen on deck mounted hatches or flush hatches where the deck grain is parallel to an edge and not the centerline of the kayak. It would take a box frame under the hatch to eliminate the twist,,and really wouldn't be worth the effort. Once you strap it down it should seal up. If it doesn't then you've got one heck of a twist.
