Paul, The added hieght was mainly to keep the bow up above the water in heavy swell. I was aware of the "wet ride" issue with the model before I bought the kit. My freind Walt got a kit at the same time and built his real quick. When we paddle together, my bow stays up better (not torpedoing) than a stock built boat. I do not have a weight, I think it is about 50lbs the way I have it rigged, with a day hatch and deck lines. Glad you like the looks
