After 6yrs of teaching basic sea kayaking and seeing the trouble some folks had with putting on a neoprene skirt it dawned on me that for something as vital as flotation it shouldn't require a lot of finger strength to secure a hatch. With the swivel "dogs" on the Arctic Hawk you can close a hatch with your knees and elbows if you had to. The fastek buckles are more of a click-tighten-release device than a tighten-click device. I think if you look at the loads fastek buckles go through for a backpack you'd find 2" buckles on waist straps more often than 1" buckles.
