Thinking back, I also saw a wooden kayak up in Maine a few years ago that had copper rub strips - wider and longer than the brass ones I use. Looked extremely nautical. Not sure if he was trying to eliminate abrasion or shipworms!
Anyhow, the last six inches or so of the keel at the stern gets a heap of wear also from dragging the boats up beaches.
Either way you go, enjoy that new boat!
