Rounding over the shear line then painting just short of it will highlite any waveness that will show up in it. Most people paint over the seam to hide all the dips and puckers in the seam. Rub rails let you leave the shear as a hard corner and cover the seam laminations and also provide a clean corner to paint up to. If you want the shear and nails to show how about painting just up to the waterline. I go all bright.
