Re: Prior to shaping

I prefer to join a pair of half spacers on a table with little tendons made from say a 3/4" square bit of tongue depressor, model airplane plywood, or whatever is handy. The narrow kerf skill saw blade mounted on the table saw nicely removes the center ply of the spacer so the tendon fits easily. Joining the halves eliminates the need for the nails and prevents the joint from separating when bending/shaping to the deck as mentioned in step one previously in this thread.
