Finishing handles

I'm going to had yak style ash hands on a braided rop to the bow and stern of my canoe. How to do guys suggest I coat them with epoxy. They would be too small (I would think) to try using a roller on so perhaps I should just paind on the exposy and smooth it out with a foam brush?
