I did it on the interior of a Ch18 as the varnish doesn't hold up well to grinding sand/gravel under feet and the cockpit bottom is exposed to cumulative levels of sunlight over a few years time. Also the difference between untinted glass/wetout coats and tinted fill coats provides kind of a wear marker for heel spots if heels grind down too far. I had a kayak with two layers of 4oz s-glass in the cockpit but the wear in the heel spots went down into the wood. It wasn't that obvious looking in the dark cockpit. After re-glassing that area I layed down a tinted fill coat and paint.
With two light gray tinted fill coats and one coat of light gray paint it looks fine.
