Since your water is cold....

I highly recommend Chota Mukluk Light Boots (or something similar) for keeping feet warm and dry. Rubber 'clam digger' boots are a cheap alternative that work well.

Also, once in your boat in 2" or 3" of water and stuck on teh bottom, it is a good practice to 'knuckle walk' the boat into deeper water instead of using the paddle to force the boat to move. Simply lift your weight off the bottom of the boat by using your knuckles or hands on the ground to hop a foot or two at a time. When your weight is lifted, the boat floats higher and it's easy to get going.
