Thru-Deck Fittings
Posted by Kurt Maurer on May 5, 2004
I always take the easiest route to (what I see as) unimpeachable installations. The "soft loop pad eye", as inspired by Joe Greenely of Redfish Kayaks, does it for me every time.
For my money, I am only too happy to leave the sheer clamps alone as a structural anchoring target. The thru-deck fittings are what I would rather rely upon if I were desperately clutching a perimiter line with my last, dying grasp in a wild sea. And they look a lot better, too.
Regular readers of this forum will know that I do not contradict CLC often. But they will also know I do not agree with their deck rigging views worth a flip. I mean, three straps-and-buckles to hold down a hatch cover?! Aw, C'MON!!
Cheers, Kurt
