Grain Surfboards’ All New Ply-Beam Surfboard Kits are designed to get you in and out of the shop easier and out on the water faster. PlyBeam Kits can be built and shaped in half the time of the HomeGrown Kits, (Just 4 Days!).

Ply-Beam Technology allows for less set up time, fewer tools and materials and completely eliminates the need for a complicated shop setup like a rocker table and bar clamps. These new surfboard kits are fully CNC-machined from Lloyds Certified, FSC Certified marine plywood. You’ll be up and building in minutes, seeing real progress from day one. Just cut out the parts and start assembling your board.

High quality, precision-cut plywood top and bottom planks means no gluing up or cutting out planks. Clunky bar clamps and your jigsaw can remain on the shelf. Using precision cut frame locks and plank edges, PlyBeam Kits take the challenge out of ensuring your board is built symmetrically. This new construction method allows the frame and bottom planks to be dry fit together before the adhesives are added, nearly eliminating the stress of working within dry times. The installation of blocking and the alignment of planks is a breeze thanks to precise engraving and added tools and jigs.

On models with a center fin, the included, built-in fin eliminates the need to router and install a fin box or buy a fin at all. Grain’s new, all-natural cork rails are stepped in height and banded around the board in layers, giving home builders precise guide points to shape to. Rails can simply be applied with tape and shaped with a block of wood and sandpaper.

Grain’s new PlyBeam kits are designed to save money on shipping costs, with a max length of 4’ on any wood parts, utilizing precise puzzle joints in all included parts. Easy to follow, step by step instructions are available online for your viewing pleasure and continued reference. Detailed photos and How-To videos are also included.

Grain’s kits were developed before wood surfboard kits existed anywhere else, and from the beginning, the goal has been for them to be complete, comprehensible and above all, do-able. Grain supports its kit builders by phone, email, and in person. They love this process, and they want every surfer to get the same experience they’ve had, and to paddle out, incredulous, on a gorgeous board they built themselves.

Note: Before you decide on a surfboard kit from someone else make sure you understand the total cost of the component materials you'll have to source and buy separately, as well as the time it will take to fill in the gaps of knowledge that aren't covered in their manual.

Chesapeake Light Craft has been working with Grain Surfboards since 2009---we're really excited by what they're doing with their Home Grown series of wooden surfboard kits. With our San O' series of paddleboard kits, we discovered a mine of enthusiasm for wooden boards with a modern vibe. You’ll discover that wooden surfboards ride with more energy and carry more momentum down the wave. The original surfboards were wood, and a well-built wooden board will feel solid underfoot but also transmit a pleasing softness like nothing you’ve ever experienced on a 'glass and foam board. Wave after wave you’ll find new ways to praise its qualities. Quite simply, Grain Surfboard kits are a perfect blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern performance.

These kits are designed to be built by anyone with the room to do it. Previous woodworking experience is not necessary.  Shipping quote to be provided for each order. Shipping fees apply to local pickup as well.
