Neil Calore (aka “Leatherlungs”) has done it again: started and – perhaps more significantly – finished another brutal WaterTribe Everglades Challenge, a 300-mile row/sail from Tampa Bay to Key Largo, FL, in his stock Northeaster Dory.

Although he didn’t quite repeat his 2012 win, he finished a close second in Class 4 (small sailboat monohull) and 24th out of 91 overall, taking 4 days, 17 hours, and 23 minutes to complete the course in conditions ranging from no breeze at all to a howling gale, battling raging tidal currents and nearly everything Mother Nature and the Everglades could throw at him.

This is getting to be a habit (some might call it a problem addiction) for Neil, a Philadelphia firefighter who built his Dory in a CLC class in 2010 and has taken to these Watertribe expedition-style adventure races with an enthusiasm and level of energy we can’t help but stand in awe of.
