thanks to all for the help on cutting gains. I have some scrap plywood, some clamps, and a newly sharpened rabbet plane and will set out this morning to do some shaving. I am most reassured by the advice on using paint on the finished product to cover that multitude of sins whose location i alone will know...thanks again Tomc
