Painting in Basement

Posted by Stan on Jan 18, 2007

I want to paint the hull of a Chesapeake 16. The only ventilation would be a fan moving air out a medium size window. In other's experience, will the smell of the polyurethane saturate the house or is it likely to stay contained in the basement. I am sure I can tolerate the smell in the basement, but I don't want to drive others in the house out. I have painted furniture in the basement with enamel with no problems. Is the polyurethane worse than the enamel in terms of smell and fumes. Thanks
