It's been a while, but as I remember it:

* Commercial biaxial is actually two layers of glass stitched together crosswise. That will add strength to the joint.

* "Real" manufactured biaxial cloth (without mat) wets out ok, but is slightly physically thicker than standard glass... At least in my experience.

* Believe it or not, I've always saved my clean fiberglass scraps after a glue up, and have managed to collect quite a lot of hand cut biaxial strips... And I've only built a handful of boats...
