The curvy bit is a spreader stick, a strip of 4mm bent between the sheerclamps. This is according to the Scripture, Rogers Chapter 18:143, photos A thru E. That strip and a couple others hold the sheer to exactly prescribed widths until the deck goes on. The deep shadows cast by 1.3 gigawatts of studio lighting make the spreader stick look thicker than 4mm.
