Re: sanding final coat?

I go over the final varnish coat with a boat polish (Starbrite). It dulls the gloss ever so slightly, which reduces glare, hides minor scratches and removes dust bumps. Leaves a finish that is more ammenable to the inevitable fondling that you and others will do to the pretty deck.

You could get the same effect with pumice or rotten stone, but the polish suits my laziness better.
