daggerboard wheels

I needed a method to easily transport my Eastport pram down and up a sandy beach.  A board that slides into the daggerboard trunk, a couple of cleats on the board to support the boat, and a pair of wheels from Harbor Fright did the trick.  Roll the boat onto its side and slide the wheel board into the daggerboard slot then set upright.  Balances nicely and wheels around like a wheelbarrow.

RE: daggerboard wheels

I nominate you for Genius of the Week!

How's the stability side to side?

RE: daggerboard wheels

I've seen a version of this where the oars attach as handles so it really is just like a wheelbarrow.

stability is good, a bit tippy but easily managed. Having two wheels centers the weight. A longer axle would increase stability while transporting but the storage in the boat while rowing/sailing becomes problematic.

   re longer axle.

why not have each wheel on a separate axle. hinge two pieces of wood from the dagger board where they hinge to a stop at about 30 degrees.

also have a strap or chain at the bottom. this would widen your footprint, giving more stability, while also folding down and stowing in boat.
