Skim Coats

Hiya, I'm currently skim coating my kayak. The first coat went on really well, but there are now some specks of dust and old epoxy debris that are stuck to the surface (though not embedded). Should I sand lightly before my next skim coat to get rid of these?

RE: Skim Coats

fwiw, in most cases, specs of dust will disapear when over coated.  not sure what 'debris' looks like...but if it is big and opaque enough to see...overcoating it will just lock it in.

a light sanding with low grit (120 or higher) and wipe down with denatured alcohol (to clean the surface of dust) should clear up your problem.

as i have developed my skills over time, i have gotten pretty good at reducing dirt, dust and other things that mess up my epoxy so it all part of the learning process.
