We're working on a sassafrass 16 kit, not sure how long each rail and inwale stock is supposed to be and it's not written out in the instruction book, just that we would need 70 lineal foot total. The kit came with 8 8ft long peices with one end prepared for a scarf joint and 4 2ft long peices with one end prepared for a scarf joint (badly drawn diagram below). Should four of those 8 foot peices have a scarf joint on both ends?

With just two two 8ft peices glued at the scarf joint, the rail would be 15 ft long, but, the boat's closer to 16 ft. With the extra 2 ft piece each of the 4 rails would be about 17ft (about 1/4th of 70ft), so I think we just need to cut in another scarf joint. Talk me out of it if these small peices are destined for something else!
