I have just finishing my annual revarnishing of the decks on my kayaks. I am always surprised to see how much the wood color has bleached, as compared to the areas that are covered by straps and bungie cords.
I have considered reconfiguring the straps and bungie to unclutter my deck, but the discoloring would leave a pattern of where the straps and bungie used to be. Does anyone know how to eliminate this discoloring?

Welcome to the world of Mother Nature. The only way I know of to keep this from happening is to keep it indoors. LOL I know from experince that no matter how much varnish you use the colors will change. Purple Heart will turn tan, Padauk will turn almost black. If it gets to bad you can always sand it down to bare wood and reglass and varnish it. I would recomend building a new yak.
