Woodworking tools required to build a skerry or northeaster dory

I am a novice woodworker and would like to know what are the woodworking tools required to put together a skerry or northeaster dory kit?

RE: Woodworking tools required to build a skerry or northeaster dory

You'll need a lot of the same for both boats, tape measure, string or chalk line, spirit level (24" to 36"), carpenter's framing square, small handsaw, block plane, drill and bits, screwdrivers, pliers and wire cutters, flat or hald round rasp (I prefer the Shinto rasp), sharp knife, small hammer, saw horses, clamps (20-30 C, bar or strong spring type), random orbital sander. For the Skerry you'll also need a rabbetting plane to cut the gains in the panels at the bow and stern. There aren't any gains in the Dory and it's probably a bit easier to build for a first timer.

You'll also need sandpaper (80, 150, 220 and 400(wet) grit), disposable foam brushes, bristle brushes and foam rollers, disposable gloves, wax paper, small wire nails or brads, masking tape.

That'll get you off to a good start!

Happy building,

George K
