Attaching oarlock risers on CY

Hi all,

We are preparing to attach four oarlock risers to the rubrails of my Chester Yawl.

Option 1 is epoxy the risers to the rubrail. Option 2 is predrill two countersunk holes up through the rubrail and into the riser, then attach with epoxy and two 1.25" #6 brass screws.

Option 2 feels like " belt and suspenders " for an area of the boat that will receive a lot of stress. But will the extra screws actually damage the integrity of the wood risers?

Seeking input on pros and cons.

Many thanks,

DaveJ

RE: Attaching oarlock risers on CY

   FYI,

We ended up going with Option 1. Although I would have liked to do Option 2,it was impractical, as there is not enough spAce on the underside of the rubrail the get clean countersunk pilot holes.
