Leather oar collar kit question?
vague instructions:
the leather collars have a smooth side and a suede side, which is out and which goes towards the oar?
Also, same question on the buttoms? Looks like I should wrap the buttoms twice around, right? Or is it once, then trimmed like the collars.

My collar kit is in the mail, so I don't have any first-hand experience, but this video may be helpful.

Smooth side out.
I used a dab of glue to hold them in place while stitching.
Buttons get two wraps. I couldn’t bring myself to drive tacks into the wood. Glued them with polyurethane glue (gorilla glue). 4 years on they are holding their own under moderately heavy use. If you go that route be careful with application, spills and squeeze out are ugly.
If you are using round (closed) oarlocks be sure to put them on the oar before buttons.
