I bought plans from CLC to make their beautiful oars for my NE Dory. They're turning out OK, but it's just been hard for me to get good clean cuts on the bandsaw in order to make it square to get nice round shanks while shaping them with the spoke shave/plane. Anyone have any advice for me?
I'm also interested in some other plans, does anyone have recommendations for that?

RE: Oars
Laszlo is quite right. Making oars requires lots of wood removal. I used a spokeshave for most of the work, but I can see that a belt sander might be helpful too.
You asked about other plans. Here are two links to my blog pages about making my oars that should give you some addition ideas:

My oars started out very rough indeed. They turned out to be quite lovely and have worked exceptionally well for almost two seasons now.

Don't worry too much about the bandsaw cuts, they're just for bulk wood removal. The real shaping is done with the hand tools. Practice with those until you can get them to do exactly what you want (and keep them sharp).
And while old tyme carpenters sneer when I say this, a power sander can help out with the shaping if used carefully.
Good luck,
