Since it's a seat (aka thwart), you could just fill the crack(s) with either cab-o-sil or wood dust thickened epoxy depending on whether the seat is painted or a bright finish.
One trick is to put tape on the finished surface and fill it from the back side to reduce the amount of sanding required. This may require you to put the boat upside down on sawhorses and crawl up under there to fill it from the inside.
