NE Dory Kick-up rudder question
Hello All -
Having some trouble with my rudder set-up : -
I can't seem to rig the line that pulls the rudder down without it getting jambed or twisted around the rudder rendering it useless.
I have had to revert to pushing the rudder down by hand - less than ideal in a bit of a seaway (!)
Ideas/suggestions welcome.
Thanks.

RE: NE Dory Kick-up rudder question
I'm not sure what the configuration of your kick-up rudder is, but when I bult my Joel White-designed Shellback Dinghy, I converted the designed rudder to a kick-up one and had the same problem. I solved it by installing a pair of stainless steel springs from a Sunfish. They provide just the right tension to pull the rudder back down every time it kicks up to clear an obstacle, but not so much tension as to prevent it from kicking up. You can get the springs here: http://www.intensitysails.com/rutespforsu.html Good luck.
Jim
