Oxford Shell - wiring bottom panels to side panels

I am about to stich the bottom panels to the side panels and have a question.

Question: do I need to epoxy the sheer clamp bevels at the bow and stern first before I stich the bottom panels to the side panels then check the hull for any possible winding? The instructions are not clear on this.

Thanks,

Guy S.

RE: Oxford Shell - wiring bottom panels to side panels

Have't built the Oxford Shell, but have built about 10 S&G kayaks and canoes. Don't use any epoxy before stitching the sides to the bottom. Spend a bit of time Stitching things up, and make sure you like the fit before adding epoxy. As soon as the epoxy starts to set, you loose alot of flexibility to fix mistakes. You might find that to get the perfect fit, you need to run a piece of folded sandpaper between the sheer clamps. Once you are satisfied with how this are lined up, you can loosen a few stitches, add epoxy and tighten them back up. Good Luck, JRC

Thanks JRC - I did just that and it worked great!
