Matunuk for Big People

Greetings all -

It's been a long time since I've built anything more complicated than a tree fort, so I'm getting back into the game.

I miss my Chesepeake 18 and North Bay (all given away long ago), and now I have little kids so long kayak expeditions are a few years away.  Surf sessions are more do-able and I'm lusting after the Matunuk, but I'm 235 lbs with size 15 feet.  I used to cram my feet into whitewater play boats, but life's too short for that...

Has anyone my size used the Matunuk?  Any thoughts on whether it could be scaled up for the larger set?  I have access to a CNC router, but I imagine scaling the panels won't be quite as simple as it sounds.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Nathan

RE: Matunuk for Big People

   Matunuk..........paddler size 80 - 200 lbs, 8 ft long

If you have your heart set on a white water boat call CLC and ask them. I think they have a contact

line. http://www.clcboats.com/forms/contact_us.html

But if you want a boat more befitting of your size look at the Shearwater Sport. Not expedition, but you could over night. Not a whitewater boat but it does do big white water.

i agree with Grumpy's suggestion to consider the Shearwater Sport.  If you went with the hybrid version, it would be quite an easy modification to raise the deck a couple inches to better fit your size 15s.  (Deck height could be altered on any hybrid/strip design by increasing the height of a few forms forward of the cockpit.)  Another one to consider is the Sea Isle Sport.  CLC claims it is good in surf and your feet would fit for sure.  My Petrel Play is a GREAT surf boat but you would probably need to modify the deck height.
