Am in the process of refinishing the deck of a Shearwater Hybrid. If possible, I would like to correct something that has bothered me since I completed the boat; the fiberglas weave is visible under the multiple coats of Pettit Flagship varnish. I can't feel it, but it's quite visible. I did not have this problem on two previous boats (Chesapeaks).

The only thing I can think of is that I must not have put enough epoxy fill coats on the deck. (?) My question ... It is feasible to sand the deck thoroughly (presumably enough to remove all the varnish) and apply another coat of epoxy? The tough part of this is, how do I know I've sanded off all the varnish?I'm thinking that the epoxy won't bond on varnish, but I don't know that.
