How long in between varnish coats?

I just put the first coat of varnish on.  How long until I can sand and then apply another coat?

thanks

RE: How long in between varnish coats?

I am by no means an expert, but this morning I put the last coat on my 17LT.  Check the instructions on the can of varnish and it should have a drying times table.  I am using Interlux Schooner and it says 12 hours at 70F and 8 hours at 85F.

If you have controlled conditions, you might get by with one coat every 8-12 hours, but I usually just put down on coat a day.  Light sanding between coats.  I like to build 6-8 coats of varnish on top of epoxy, but number of coats after 3 or 4 is a matter for self-reflection.

Yes - read the directions on the can. The baseline conditions are 70 deg F and 40% humidity. Higher temps speed drying up, higher humidity may slow it down.

Wow, kind of embarrassed about not checking the can.  Sounds like I will go a coat a day to be safe. So excited to be almost done though. It's hard to wait.
