Help identify this boat - Cedar Strip
We need help identifying this boat. What style of boat is it? History?
length: 17 feet
beam: 4 feet
construction: strip built with two rowing stations.
The only identifying marks, are on the bow that states "Sail Sand Point".

Looks kind of similar to this 17' cedar strip with some modifications.

My guess is that it is L. Francis Herreshoff's 17' rowboat, first published in the Rudder Magazine October, 1947, then modified and presented to home builders in John Gardner's book Building Classic Small Craft Volume 2.
The Gardner book was really popular and a lot of the 17-footers are around. The original is lapstrake. I think this builder took the lines and rendered the design in strips.
One Google search turned up a nice example of the original Herreshoff/Gardner design built by our friends at the Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory.
