This is my first build and I have just seperated the deck from the hull and found the finish on the under side of the deck is far from what I was hoping for. There are far to many gaps, dips and uneven areas. After 8 hrs of filling, planing and sanding it is obvious that I will still be left with many areas that the f/glass will not conform to. Are there any structural reasons that I would need to have underside of the deck as fair as top or is near enough good enough as it is only my toes that will see it?

The underbelly of the deck need not be perfect. Who will ever see it? Use some thickened epoxy to even it out and lay the glass on it while wet. Should be fine.
