I'm building a NE Dory (sail) in the class in Annapolis in Sept 2012. My debate is sloop rig vs lug rig. I like the look of the sloop rig but want to be able to row on same trip as well as sail (for expedition-type sailing in FL Keys). I know there have been general posts on this before but my specific question is this: If I go with the sloop sail rig with the "Sailing Component Kit Upgrade" will I be able to meet my mission requirement of being able to row on same trip as sail?

Discussed in this BLOG post.

I think the consensus is that the balanced lug rig is simpler to put up and take down, but the sloop rig is higher performance on all points of sail.
