Glass Fabric showing after final sanding - HELP!!

I am final sanding the epoxy on my Kaholo SUP

To get it smooth I am getting into wrinkles in the glass cloth and the weave is showing.  I recoated with unthickened epoxy and some of the cloth disappeared.  But some did not.

I plan to finish bright with Varnish.

I do not know What to do?

RE: Glass Fabric showing after final sanding - HELP!!

I have *read* (mind you, my direct experience is prettttty limited) that if the weave shows a little, varnish will make it disappear. But the same fellows say that if you sand too deep into the weave - to the point where you can feel the texture of it, then the weave will show after varnishing.

I am facing the same issue as you. I have not varnished yet, but the weave is definitely showing in places. I'm going to do as you did, recoat the worst areas with epoxy - sand lightly, and varnish. We'll see what happens!

Thank you for the reply.  After the spot recoat of epoxy,  I guess we could test a spot or two with a few dabs of varnish.  If that does not work there is always paint.  At least it would be smooth.

Paint is not what I want but I have noticed I do not always get "what I want."

 Thanks - Jim

Sifu - I got the following answer from someone at CLC - what a great company!!!

Give the deck a swipe with a clean rag and some denatured alcohol.  In
the few moments before the solvent evaporates, you'll get a perfect
preview of what the board will look like under varnish.  Most likely,
the fiberglass pattern you're seeing will be completely invisible, and
you have nothing at all to worry about.  Worst case, you just need to
sand a little more.
