Wherry Skeg - Anyone Trimmed it Down
I've been using my Wherry for about 18 months and find it rows extremely straight. I don't have the rowing seat and feel a lot of slowing between strokes. It seems to me that I could reduce drag by making the skeg smaller. Has anyone else tried this?
Thanks,
Geoff

I cannot imagine that trimming the skeg will make a significant reduction in resistance. It presents a very small area (maybe a couple of square inches) directly facing into the flow and friction along the sides of it's length will be negligible. I bet any change would be imperceptible and certainly far less than a knot of headwind.

Hi Geoff,
This is one of those situations where it might be a good idea to contact the CLC staff directly and see what they think. They have always been quick to respond to any Wherry questions I had.
