Scott, I have built the 12 and 16 but not the 14 yet.I would make the plank to the longer patern and then you can trim it back to size if necessary .Once you have one of each plank-half cutout, you can save a lot of wood by moving them around on the sheet of plywood so as to fit as many as you can and trace around them. It looks as if your cat is not going to be of much help. Robert
